"Dead Diavo Day" [Dec. 5th, 2006|08:35 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Current Location |casket]
[Feeling: |blahzombie]
[Currently listening to: |funeral march]

This is how I felt today. Left work early, barely stayed conscious to drive home, chugged OJ & a multivitamin, crawled into bed.

I will NOT get sick!

[CI-62] SPIRITED NIGHT OUT [Dec. 4th, 2006|10:52 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Tags|, ]
[Feeling: |artisticChristmas-y]

I did this one over the course of a few nights, mostly the playing around with different colors ate up my time. Panel 2 remained blank till nearly the end -- I just couldn't think of anything fitting. Random chick winks at Maestro, he goes off to do card magic for her & her friends. For a random girlie, she took 3 iterations (colored & all) before I settled on the fourth (including one that was close to my dream girl -- better to not waste that design!)
I'm starting to use more artistic licence: free form cards in P2, Diavo's foreground silhouette, Maestro's color outlined silhouette, blurred random tables with non-important-but-nevertheless-needed-for-effect people in P4. I wish I had a friend with mad art skills whom I could show my paper sketches to and get creative ideas for my basic initial layouts. It's hard to progress and get better without good feedback.

Samantha Claus was introducted in CI-35. She & Diavo have known each other for some time; years. No other details have been revealed... yet.

I had the dialogue between Diavo & Samantha written last year, with a simple "met up sitting next to each other at the bar" scene. The comic sketch it was from had been a potential direct continuation of CI-35, where Diavo goes into the nearby bar to get the stunned Maestro some ice, and thus bumping into Sam. I ran out of time right before Christmas last year to add that comic idea, and the next comic I did was a month later...

About this time last year I got my Wacom tablet -- look how far I've come!

[CI-61] LIGHTLY TANGLED [Nov. 27th, 2006|10:16 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Feeling: |artisticChristmas-y]

Ah, the bane of Christmas decorating: The Tangles. Gotta put up colored (!) Christmas lights, baby. B-)
Mine will go up this week; anytime after Thanksgiving is fine.

Each light was hand placed, but lit en masse. +Another fun T-shirt design. =)
That's a sample of my handwriting on the box there ('love my Wacom tablet!).

[CI-60] AFTERSHOCK [Oct. 6th, 2006|01:09 am]

Here's how to drink red Aftershock. Note: swish it for ~30 seconds and not 2 minutes! Too long and you'll lose feeling in parts of your mouth... including taste buds for a few days.
With caution, it's good stuff! ;P

[CI-59] HOT & COOL [Oct. 4th, 2006|09:29 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Feeling: |thirstythirsty]

This is classic Diavo & Maestro -- I remember years back during a crazy & fun packed weekend right before my birthday when I was driving in Towson [I think it was that very night we went to the diner 15 times!] and Maestro next to me was going through his address book looking for chicks to call to fill our evening. His running commentary is pretty accurate.

Mmmm! Ever have Aftershock?! "Hot & Cool Cinnamon Liqueur" -- 80 proof. My new favorite drink, right next to the chocolate martini. It's like a liquid Atomic Fireball (the candy). The bottle practically glows red. Next comic will be about How To Drink Aftershock.
I emulated the bottle's slogan with D & M: fire & red on one, blue & cool on the other.

[CI-58] ILLUSIONS IN PROGRESS [Oct. 3rd, 2006|08:41 pm]

[Feeling: |accomplishedaccomplished]

Hello! Remember this world? I think I might return to it...

Maestro is building a magic bar & lounge named Illusions, opening [soon?!] in Baltimore, MD. And this is what the front space looks like as of Sunday. We've been pitching in; Stevo regularly.
Now, just wait until it's done and the adventures of the Hot Shots continue at their own home bar!

returning to my Cool Intentions [Oct. 2nd, 2006|03:31 am]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Feeling: |contemplativecontemplative]

I'm planning on doing comics here again. For how long this time? Who knows! As always it depends on these factors, in order of importance:
Amount Free Time - My Desire To Do It - Other's Interest In It.
If any one of those goes, I stop. Knowing other people are reading it is nice (please leave Comments!!), but not my driving factor -- I don't expect it to get famous. If I get bored with it, it'll be paused again. Why have I stopped for both summers I've been doing this? No Free Time.

So, I'm going back to being part journal, part fictional stories. We still have to find out who's spying on the crew, what The Fony Corp is up to, what Diavo's connection with Rent-A-Reaper & the Angel of Death is, and what are Cool Intentions anyway?!

To fill you in on what's happened since the CI-57:
* Summer came & went. Since Diavo & Maestro don't wear shorts, you don't want to see them sweating, right? Ew...
* Diavo tossed the digipad in his closet when the odd battery died, and promptly forgot about it.
* Diavo met up with the Angel of Death at the bar The Open Casket. Eventually we'll get info on the meeting in a flashback or some such.
* Maestro is nearing completion of Illusions Magic Bar & Lounge. Another Reality mirroring event. Stay tuned for adventures at Illusions!

+I'm going back to round heads -- the square ones I'm starting to think looked like robots. Would be a good style, but for different characters; not ones based on actual people (with actual round heads!).

Cool Intentions the webcomic originally stems from my idea for a sequel to the movie Swingers. Ten years later, a couple of hepcats in an un-hip city, spread their coolness around. Autobiographical! B-)

[CI-57] A SURPRISE [Apr. 6th, 2006|10:24 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Feeling: |excitedexcited]

On this, the one year anniversary of Cool Intentions my webcomic, I present you the Reader with something new to enjoy -- a wholly different webcomic:

Dream Too Darkly
A story about the nightmares of a girl in a coma, as psychoanalyzed by a doctor attempting to understand her and bring about her sanity. [Learn More]

It will become my main project and Cool Intentions will take a back seat to it; not killed, just on hold. I'll do CI comics from time-to-time.
This CI comic plays havoc with metaphysics, as the item Diavo receives is from the future and is a piece of technology, while Dream Too Darkly occurs in a completely different alternate reality with a very low tech level (we think). Please check out this new world, and add it to your LJ Friends. =)

[CI-56] ON WORMHOLES [Mar. 27th, 2006|05:59 pm]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Tags|, ]
[Feeling: |confusedhope-full]

I'm getting bored with the way Cool Intentions has been developing. The original Intention was for it to be a journal-esque comic to share stories and odd things in my life as well as to gripe and make fun of people & events. I still have between one and two dozen good individual comic ideas along those lines.

Then it quickly became a medium for fictional story telling, which I very much enjoy.

It's succeeding at neither.

I've got too much creativity to be stifled by "normal" characters in "normal" reality!
So things are going to change -- a revolution! Think Tim Burton meets Mirrormask meets Psychonauts meets American McGee's Alice meets my imagination. ':-]
I've got a decent segue planned for it -- I'm not just dropping everything flat.

Ya dig? Stick with me, here I go...

[CI-55] UNDERESTIMATED [Mar. 23rd, 2006|12:51 am]
Cool Intentions -- the webcomic
[Feeling: |blahtough]

Another one of those prejudice examples, with a reprise of my first story arc. Don't judge skill by size or cuteness.
I love Rube Goldberg machines. Cat makes a contraption to deal a little wake up call -- and not with Folgers!
To quote Lou Bega's song Beauty on TV -- "She's cute, and pretty, and sometimes she's tough."

This comic took longer to finish than any before it. Mostly because I actually redrew Cat five times; no copy & pasting here. Yes, the background for Panel 1 is a stage curtain. No, there are no supports for the lower wodden 2x4. And yes, I used an oversized exclamation point AND a mad/frustrated storm-squiggle-cloud symbol.
The guy's shirt was going to say "Macho" or "Jerk" but when I tried out that color I couldn't resist the joke. His hair fits the profile too, hehe.
